Tuesday 5/9-Tuesday 5/16

It has been a crazy week! We completed chapter 14 and took a group test. 

Monday 5/15 was the start of the block schedule. The Math portion of SBAC testing will be next week Monday 5/22-Thursday 5/25. We are nearing the end of the school year so keep doing your best and we are close to summer!

Today we went to the Math Fair in the MPR to check out the projects of the 7th grade Honors Math students. We heard the various presentations and picked our top two. Thank you everyone for being respectful and attentive to the presenters!

Thursday 4/20

Today we finished our look at exponent properties with a look at negative and zero exponents in Lesson 13.3.

This now completes all six of the exponent rules that you need to memorize and be able to use to solve and simplify a variety of problems. 

  • Product Rule of Powers

  • Power to a Power Rule
  • Zero Power Rule
  • Negative Exponent in the Numerator Rule

Today we continued our lesson with the substitution method. We found that some of us enjoy the method and others of us do not. Don't worry! We still have another method we are going to learn! Of the two methods, you will pick the one that works best for YOU.

Today we took a look at a new way to solve a system of linear equations using the substitution method. Go through the  PowerPoint one more time to see if you can solve on your own.

Tuesday 4/4

Today we solved a system of linear equations from...CLASH OF CLANS!! We had to figure out how many Giants and Archers our army camp had. We had only 200 housing space units and our army had 120 members. We figured out that we could have 20 Giants and 100 Archers!

Great job everyone! It is always fun being able to connect math with popular games!

Today we worked on our Desmos House Project. Your project needs to be submitted electronically by 11:59 pm TONIGHT

On Monday April 3rd, your house blueprint and rubric will be turned in during class. I provided you with a rubric so if you need another one, you must print one on your own. Click on rubric if you need to print another one from home. 

To submit your project, follow these directions:

1. Go to the "Desmos Project" tab on this blog
2. Scroll down the page until you reach the "Desmos Assignment Submissions" form. 
3. Fill in your name, period, Desmos assignment, and the link to your project. The link is the URL of your Desmos project. Make sure you click submit.

Please email me if you have any troubles with submitting your project. I look forward to seeing everyone's final project!

Today we looked at Lesson 11.1 in further detailed. We were able to find the break-even point where the school did not lose or gain any profit from the fundraiser. From this, we can find how many shirts they need to sell to start making a profit.

Today we dove into Chapter 11 today with an introduction to systems of equations in Lesson 11.1. We've got A LOT more to do with systems, but today was a good introduction for us.

Tuesday 3/28

Today we played Dance Dance Transversal! It is like the game Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) but with math! We learned all of the dance moves that matched the different types of angles. Great job everyone and I hope you had a fun time dancing in class!

Today we worked on 10.3 Magic Boxes. We became familiar with the vocabulary words that we will be using in our fun, interactive activity tomorrow. Don't forget your dancing shoes for tomorrow!

Homework: Write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the terms congruent and similar. Be sure to discuss detailed characteristics like corresponding angles and corresponding sides. Be thorough in your analysis.

The Desmos Project is similar to the block name you created towards the beginning of the year. The theme is House so you will create a house in Desmos. You must have a blueprint of your design on graph paper and the blueprint must match your Desmos design. We will be discussing it more next week.
