Today we completed a Finding Diagonals Desmos activity. We had to find the lengths of the diagonals of different two-dimensional shapes. We found that we can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the lengths. Great job everyone!

Friday 11/18

Today we watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving in class today. Since everyone has been working hard this semester so far, we deserved a movie day!

Thursday 11/17

Today we worked on bringing Math outdoors with a 3-Act Math lesson on Pythagorean Theorem. We banned together with Mrs. Baze's classes and had to figure out the distance from the top of the flagpole to where we were. 

All of the students did an awesome job participating and collaborating with their peers. I really enjoyed seeing all the effort that took place today!

Wednesday 11/16

Today we played the game Bullseye to practice real life problems with Pythagorean Theorem. Great job everyone!

Tomorrow we will be doing a fun activity outdoors. Don't forget to bring your math brain and have some fun!

Tuesday 11/15

Today we explored the Pythagorean Theorem. We had to decide whether we would choose the 2 smaller squares filled with treasure or the larger square. We found out that we would get the same amount of treasure no matter what we chose! Tomorrow we will continue with Pythagorean Theorem!!

Today we began a new module in MATHia (Right Triangles). The due date for this module is December 15th.

Thursday 11/10

Today we worked on a piecewise function activity(instead of Lesson 4.5). It was awesome!

We also learned about Veterans Day through a short, fun video. We often do not know why we have days off and what are the meanings behind those holidays. If you would like to view the video again, it is on the left!

Wednesday 11/9

Today we worked on a Desmos activity called Function Carnival. It is my favorite Desmos activity of the year and I hope you all enjoyed it! We had 3 challenges:

• Cannon Man
• Bumper Cars
• Ferris Wheel

The challenges were to create a graph that matched each of the scenarios. It was a lot of trial and error, but we were able to successfully draw the graphs that matched! Great job everyone!!

Today we learned how to find the slope (also known as rate of change) from an equation in Lesson 3.4. We learned that when an equation is written in slope-intercept form, the coefficient in front of the variable x represents the slope. To find the slope, all we have to do is rewrite any equation in slope-intercept form!

Tuesday 10/11

Today we tackled Lesson 3.3, which focused our attention on finding the rate of change and unit rate from a context.

We learned that there's not a set formula or method to solving these - it's all about thinking critically, evaluating what you'd need to know to answer the question, and using the clues given to determine the rate.

Monday 10/10

Today we continued our look at finding the rate of change and unit rate from a table with Lesson 3.2. We're now proficient with both informal and formal methods.

Sometimes, some students get tripped up not with the rate of change methods, but in adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. If you need to brush up on those skills, use the daily practice links at the side to become an integer master!

Today we finished our look at linear functions, equations, tables, and graphs. We discovered that we've got a competitor in the shirt-making marketplace and our boss has tasked us with some analysis. We brought the groups together and found that U.S. Shirts was the better company when we wanted less than 14 shirts and Hot Shirts was a better company when we wanted more than 14 shirts.

Monday 9/26

Today we continued our look at linear functions, equations, tables, and graphs with the last part of  Lesson 2.5 and the first part of Lesson 2.6. Instead of working in Carnegie, I separated the class based on U.S. Shirts and Hot Shirts. 

We discovered that we've got a competitor in the shirt-making marketplace and our boss has tasked us with some analysis. Tomorrow we will bring the groups together and focus on the analysis part.
